The winter season is a time of celebration around the world. Traditions are quite different from one country to another. Here are some ways that people celebrate the season in different countries. In China, the main winter festival is Spring Festival. It occurs at the end of a year in Chinese Calendar and it is a time to get together. In Denmark, dinner on Christmas Eve is a big time for celebration. They make a traditional rice pudding with a single almond inside. If you get the almond in your pudding, it means you will have good luck for the coming year. Children leave out glasses of milk for the elves that live in people’s homes and for Santa Claus. In Finland, people have a tradition of resting and relaxing on Christmas Day. Christmas Eve is really the time of the big meal. On December 26th, everyone will go out to visit friends and relatives if it is nice outside. In India, people celebrate Christmas by decorating mango and banana trees and decorating houses with red flowers. Gifts are exchanged with family members and friends. In Rome, Italian people jump into river without any clothes on to celebrate the New Year. It started from 1946. In Spain, to celebrate the New Year, people eat 12 grapes at the midnight when they hear the bell of the church. It will bring them good luck all through the next year.
