凯文·卡特之死是记者追求“好的”的新闻、“精彩的”的镜头，与社会公德之间尖锐冲突的结果。
“好的”的新闻、“精彩的”的镜头，往往意味着媒体和记者在名誉与金钱上的双丰收。但有时处理不当，也会引起大众的不满。即以凯文·卡特来说，那张照片传遍世界后，人们在寄予非洲人民巨大的同情的同时，更加关注那个小女孩的命运。成千上万的人打电话给《纽约时报》，询问小女孩最后是否得救。而与此同时，来自各方的批评也不绝于耳，甚至是在凯文·卡特获得大奖之后。人们纷纷质问，身在现场的凯文·卡特为什么不去救那个小女孩一把？！就连凯文·卡特的朋友也指责说，他当时应当放下摄影机去帮助小女孩。
事实上，凯文·卡特本人几乎从一开始便处于冲突的痛苦之中。他在抢拍完之后，实在不愿再看下去那个极端对立、极其冷酷的场面，于是，他把秃鹰轰走。过了一段时间，他看到，那个小女孩用尽所有力气爬起来，重新艰难地向救济中心挪动……望着小女孩的身影，凯文·卡特内心充满了矛盾、愧疚和痛苦。他在一棵树旁坐了下来，一边抽着烟，一边泪流满面。后来，他曾对人说：“当我把镜头对准这一切时，我心里在说?上帝啊！?可我必须先工作。如果我不能照常工作的话，我就不该来这里。”
正是因为无法忍受外界公众与自己内心的道德困惑和越来越大的精神压力，凯文·卡特在获得大奖仅3个月后即走上不归之路。

CNN (Cable News Network): an advertising-supported cable television network, founded in 1980 by American businessman Ted Turner. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, CNN was the first 24-hour television network devoted entirely to news broadcasts. CNN also carries regular programming devoted to international news, business and sports news, health issues, and entertainment news. Its sister network, CNN International, can be received in more than 200 countries, including the United States. CNN has received many Peabody Awards and other awards for excellence in programming. CNN also produces CNN Headline News, a channel running 48 half hour television news programs consecutively throughout the day, and CNN Radio, a 24-hour syndicated service. In 1996 Time Warner acquired the Turner Broadcasting System,

which owned CNN and other cable-television networks.
