并列复合句是由两个或两个以上并列而又独立的简单句构成。

两个简单句由并列连词and, but, or连在一起;有时不用连接词,只在两个简单句之间用一逗号或分号。 一、并列关系

表示并列关系的复合句常由and连接,前后分句的时态往往保持一致 e.g. I’m a student and my sister is a student, too.

I want to be a musician and Peter wants to be a scientist. 二、选择关系

表示选择关系的复合句常由or连接,表示在两者之间选择一个,前后分句的时态保持一致。 e.g. You can stay at home, or you go to the park with us. We can go swimming after school, or we play football together. 三、转折关系

表示转折关系的复合句常由but连接,表示转折,前后分句的时态保持一致。 e.g. Jim is only five years old, but he can speak five different languages. My mother won’t go to the party, but my father will go. 使用并列复合句要注意的几种情况。

1) 并列复合句有时可不用连词,而用分号隔开(前后句之间的关系须相当紧密)。 e.g. We fished all day; we did not catch a single fish.

2) 并列连词后的简单句如果与其前的简单句有相同的部分,则相同的部分常可省略。 e.g. Snoopy lives in his own world and (Snoopy) finds real life hard to understand. Step 10 Exercises

Let Ss look at the pictures and answer the questions to review what they have learnt. Step 2 Language practice
