It?s very preferable that you should store the following 4 items out of the fridge. You are mistaken if you think that all products enjoy low temperatures.

1. Banana

Bananas are full of vitamins and minerals. They are nutritious and it?s a shame to find out that the food is losing its best properties simply because you do not know how to store it. Keep your bananas on the kitchen table and let the fruits ripen(成熟). The ripening process is prevented if bananas are put in the cooler.

2. Honey

Honey is an incredibly valuable product. It is naturally preserved and does not need to be stored in the fridge. Keep natural honey in a clean container away from sunlight. Place it in a dry place where the temperature is not too low. Although it may turn hard after a long time, you can delay it by keeping your honey in room temperature.

3. Garlic

We do not want our garlic to grow buds! But that?s what happens to this plant if it is kept in the cooler. Take your garlic out of the fridge and find a better place. If you keep it in a dry, cool and well ventilated place, your garlic will stay fresh.

4.Eggs

There are two different opinions about eggs and their storage conditions. Some people believe that the best place to keep eggs is the fridge. Others say that it does not really matter whether the temperature is low or not. The only advice we can give you is: try out both of the above mentioned storage conditions and decide which one works for you best.

11. What will happen to bananas in the fridge? A. They will ripen naturally. B. They will stop ripening. C. They will taste better. D. They will turn bad.

12. Honey had better be stored____________

A. In the fridge B. in the cooler C. in a dry place D. in room temperature 13. What can be inferred on the storage conditions of eggs? A. The author is not sure yet. B. Temperature is important. C. Eggs need special storage. D. Eggs are very healthy food.

B

It was June 15, and in two days I would be turning thirty. I was not secure about entering a new stage of my life and feared that my best years were now behind me. My daily habits included going to the gym for a workout( 锻炼) before going to work. Every morning I would see my friend Nicholas at the gym. He was79 years old and in good shape. As I greeted Nicholas on that special day, he noticed I wasn't full of my usual energy and asked if there was anything wrong. I told him I was feeling worried about turning 30. I wondered how I would understand my life once I reached Nicholas's age, so I asked him, “What was the best time of your life?”

Without any thinking, Nicholas replied, “Well, Joe, this is my reasonable answer to your reasonable question:

When I was a child in Austria and everything was taken care of for me and I was cared for by my parents, that was the best time of my life.

When I was going to school and learning the things I know today, that was the best time of my life.

When I got my first job and had responsibilities and got paid for my efforts, that was the best time of my life.

When I met my wife and fell in love, that was the best time of my life.

The Second World War came, and my wife and I had to escape from Austria to save our lives. When we were together and safe on a ship for(开往)North America, that was the best time of my life.

When we came to Canada and started a family, that was the best time of my life. When I was a young father, watching my children grow up, that was the best time of my life.”

“And now, Joe, I am79 years old. I have my health, I feel good and I am in love with my wife just as I was when we first met. This is the best time of my life.” 14. How did the author feel about his 30th birthday? A. Grateful B. Surprised C. Amazed D. Upset 15. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A. My life style B. My life attitude C. My trouble in life D. My life experience 16. Where was Nicholas when World War II broke out? A. Austria B. North America C. South America D. Canada

17. About the best time of life, which of the following might Nicholas agree with? A. One should treasure meaningful time in life. B. Every moment is the best time of life. C. It should be a successful moment. D. It should be the happiest time.

C

From the moment the iron bird landed in the noise of Logan Airport with its wings proudly spread, my wings became weak quietly in this unfamiliar country.

“Time is up!” Soft as it was, the clear voice of my English teacher exploded in my head. My hands shaking, cold fingers could hardly hold the pen in position, under which lay an unfinished composition.

Worried and disappointed, I found myself able to raise my head, like most of the Asian students, only in math class.

“Helen, what is your name in Chinese?” Rosie, a girl with pink cheeks, asked me one morning as I dropped my back pack onto the seat next to her.

“Gao Yuxin”, I pronounced clearly in standard Chinese, a little surprised by the question. “Why?”

“Just interested. Can you write it there?” She pointed at the board.

I printed my name in Chinese characters “高雨莘” in the center of the blackboard. The class fell into silence. I turned and faced the questioning eyes,

“Yuxin is my first name. Yu means ?to rain? or ?to give rain? and ?xin? means ?many?. ?To give rain to the many? stands for my parents? hope that I can grow healthy and...and bring joy to the many people around me.”
