Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my interest in studying history at Yale University, especially your Directed Studies program.

History has always fascinated me, and I firmly believe that the best way to study Western history is to go to a top university in the West, which would greatly help put things into perspective. I understand that your Directed Studies program will guide students through the Western canons of philosophy and literature as well as history, which is exactly the education I yearn for.
