Chinese Dance
Do you love Chinese culture? Culture means lifestyle、eating habits、language and so on. Chinese dance is an important part of Chinese culture as well. Dance imitates life, but in a refined way. Because of the different area and the different statue, there are many different kinds of dance. Basically, it can be divided into two types---military and folk dance.
In the feudalism time, the kingdoms had to keep fighting for the land, so the war was a part of life. So the military came from this. The dancers carry weapons in their hands, sometime expressing the war, sometime celebrating the victory. This kind of military dance is always performed by male dancers in group. As time goes by, all the China was unified by one emperor. So the military dance did not only stand for war, and so girls attended in the military dance. They danced with swords and sometimes mix Chinese kung fu into their dance. They danced for peace and happiness.
But nowadays, just a few dancers still perform military dance. It seems like that people prefer folk dance. We have 56 kinds of people in China, each kind of people has their own dance style, and the dresses of the dance are quite different. They all depend on their lifestyle and culture.
For example, people who live in the southwest of China were called as DAIZU. The weather there is very hot and wet, so the dancers always wear beautiful dresses or
short pants in the bright colors. And DAIZU regard peacock as their God. In that case, their always act as a graceful peacock. DAIZU has a famous festival-----The Water-Sprinkling Festival. On that day, all the boys and girls will wear their best clothes and sprinkle water to everyone. Of course, they dance all the day.
Most folk dance just tries to express beauty and loveliness. But there also is some dance that stands for strength and courage. YANCHUNZU have a traditional dance called fighting with the black bear. Three dancers are a group. Two of them stand face to face and stare at each other. They put their hands on the knees and keep jumping. At the same time, they should shake their heads and shoulders, and shout “hamo~hamo”, just as a black bear. They keep dancing and shouting, trying to be the winner. And the other man should join them just as they do and jump between that two dancers try to stop this fighting. This dance eulogizes the great strength of black bear and the brave. It’s also a specific and interesting folk dance.
In fact, dance is way to communicate. We use words to communicate, but the dancers use the movement, the expression, the emotion to communicate with their audience. Just as the Chinese language, Chinese dance has its own vocabulary,grammar, pronunciation. China has a long history, so she has plenty of time to complete and develop Chinese dance. That why so many people fell in love with Chinese dance, that’s why the Chinese culture is so amazing.
