3. Improve the students’ listening ability; 4. Enjoy the song Rhythm of the Rain. Teaching important points:

Train the students’ listening ability. Teaching difficult points:

1. Master the uncompleted plosive;

Teaching procedures: Step 1 Lead-in

It’s spring now. It’s a good time for us to travel. I’ll go to a beautiful city to spend my weekend. Can you guess where it is?

Give the Ss three clues:

It’s in the east of China. It’s a busy city.

It’s the biggest city in our country.

Guide them to ask with the sentence “Is it …?”. It’s Shanghai. (Show the picture of shanghai.) Ask the Ss to give me some advice on how to go to Shanghai. Guide them to use the sentence “You’d better go there by….”. I’ll go there by train because it’s cheap and comfortable.

Now I’m at the railway station. I want to go to the Jinjiang Park. It’s an amusement park. How can I get there in a most convenient way? Shanghai is a busy city. It’s always very crowded. So I’d better go there by subway. Step 2 Warm-up

There are many people and many different places in Shanghai and some other cities. Look at the following pictures. Where are these places? Match the pictures with the names.

爆破音有清浊三对,每对的发音部位相同,它们是:

清 浊 /p/ /b/ /t/ /d/ /k/ /g/

不完全爆破是指第一个爆破音不发生爆破,而只是由有关的发音器官形成阻碍,这时它的口腔部位和原爆破音相同,停顿而不送气。

They are having a sit-down dinner.) Show another picture, they are having a buffet breakfast. If they want to have buffet lunches or dinners, where should they go? (To self-service restaurants.) Listen to the dialogue and tell whether the following statements are True or False. 1.Joe is going to a hotel

2.In the self-service restaurant, you can take food by yourself. 3. You should first pay for the food before you eat. 4. The food in the restaurant is all very hot.

5. You can drink cola and apple juice in the restaurant.

Check the answers. Then show the listening material and listen once more. Eric: Hello, Joe. Where are you going? Joe: I’m going to go to a self-service restaurant with my friends. Eric: What kind of restaurant is a self-service restaurant?

Joe: In this restaurant, people can take things by themselves, then pay for the food after the

meal.

Eric: It sounds great. And what kind of food is served in such a restaurant?

Joe: There is a lot of food in it. You can see vegetables, meat, seafood and fruit. Some are

cold. Some are hot.

Eric: Do they have anything to drink?

Joe: Yes, they do. They have cola and apple juice. Eric: Oh, I see. Thank you. May I go with you?

Joe: OK, let’s go.

Step 5 Listen and fill in the blanks Ask the students: What’s the weather like in spring? (It often rains.) What’s your feeling in rainy days?

Enjoy the song Rhythm of the Rain and tell what the singer’s feeling is. Listen again and fill in the blanks:

Explain the meaning of the song, pay attention to the following: rhythm, brand-new, glow, care about, etc.

1. Practise reading the incomplete plosive; 2. Do exercises of Lesson 9 in the workbook; 3. Preview Lesson 10.
