Chinese primary and secondary school students spend more time on their daily homework than those of many other countries. Meanwhile, the older they are, the less everyday sleep they have.

These phenomena have been highly valued by the Chinese government, who has decided to solve the problem effectively. On the other hand, many teachers are doing something to change the situation, freeing students from heavy extracurricular burdens.

Faced with fierce competition for admission to high schools or colleges and even for future employment, children have to struggle hard from an early age. As a result, their health is gradually damaged and development easily discouraged. Therefore, it is high time that the situation were changed. In this project the government certainly plays a vital role, but it is also important that the whole society, including parents, should abandon unreasonable traditional beliefs. Only in this way can educational reform be truly successful.
