Any language bears a lot of cultural connotations, language is the vehicle of culture, and vocabulary is the most active part of language. It is necessary that compare and analyse the connotations of number words in different aspects.
Every language in the world takes root in a special cultural background, and reflects the contents of the culture. Figure is the count and quantity which reflects the scope and size of the
objective world. The social meanings of figure are different because there are some differences in cultural tradition, the concept of thinking and the
understanding and using of the figure among all kinds of languages. May be you will curious about why do westerns hate number13? Why do they like
number 7? Which is their lucky number and why? There are some religious
reasons,or some origion of fairy tale and holy bible. On the contrary, for us,why
do we admire number 9 in ancient social? What ‘s the origin of number 6 and 8? Maybe there are some resons about idiom and homonymic even the feadal system.
We are going to discuss the differences of figures between western and chinese from the traditional conception and the meaning. I belive that it can make an
advantage in cross-culture communication
